Sega has announced plans for a reboot of the popular Crazy Taxi franchise. The new game, described as an open-world, massively multiplayer AAA game, aims to bring back the thrill of speeding through a city to deliver passengers to their destinations while performing stunts to earn points. Originally released in arcades in 1999 and gaining popularity with console ports like the Dreamcast, Crazy Taxi is one of several franchises that Sega unveiled at The Game Awards 2023 along with Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and more.
In a recent developer-focused video interview, Sega provided more information about the upcoming Crazy Taxi reboot. Producer Kenji Kanno revealed that the game will be a large-scale, open-world, massively multiplayer driving game powered by Unreal Engine. Players will be able to experience the classic Crazy Taxi style while exploring new mechanics such as a theme park-like map and U.S. West Coast-inspired motifs.
The new Crazy Taxi allows for multiple players to participate simultaneously and retains the iconic style of the original game amidst new features such as different modes like driving a police car which expands the gameplay experience for players. Although there is no official release date yet for the Crazy Taxi reboot or any other games announced at The Game Awards 2023 fans can look forward to a fresh take on this beloved classic series
