WhatsApp introduces a new feature allowing users to customize photo backgrounds and styles with generative AI

Revolutionizing Photo Editing: WhatsApp Adds AI-Powered Features to Enhance Conversations

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is expanding its use of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) to include new photo editing features on WhatsApp. One of the standout features is the ability to modify your background and replace it with another, as well as transform your style based on user descriptions.

In addition to these tools, Meta has recently developed new tools based on generative AI, such as the Meta AI chatbot and Expressive Media Universe (EMU), which creates images from text and allows users to create stickers directly from messaging applications to share in conversations. These tools are designed to make it easier for users to add personalized touches to their photos without having to rely on manual editing tools.

The latest version of WhatsApp for Android released through the Google Play beta program includes a new button that offers options such as cropping and rotating photos, adding stickers and text, or using the drawing tool. Alongside these options, three more have been incorporated: ‘Backdrop’ (Background), ‘Restyle’ (Change style), and ‘Expand’ (Expand), allowing users to resize images according to their needs. These photo editing features are currently in development for Android, but it remains unclear if they will be available on iOS devices.
