Revolutionizing Food Production: Light Science Technologies Receives £188,251 Grant from Defra for Soil Sensor Development

Light Science Technologies Holdings PLC, a London-based company, has received a £188,251 grant from The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and Innovate UK. The funding is part of a larger collaboration worth £299,748 and aims to revolutionize food production through the development of soil sensors. These sensors will complement the company’s existing air zone sensors and optimize fertilizer and energy usage to enhance crop yields and increase agricultural efficiency.

CEO Simon Deacon highlighted the potential of the smart agriculture market, which is projected to reach a global value of $55 billion by 2032 with a growth rate of 12%. As a company with a global distribution network, Light Science Technologies expects to integrate the new sensor technology into its SensorGrow product range for commercial sale following a 12-month trial period. This innovation represents a significant step forward in the company’s mission to improve agricultural practices and food production efficiency.
