The EU’s assistance is crucial for Eastern Finland

Reviving Eastern Finland’s Economy Amidst Russian Aggression: Strategies and Recommendations from the Finnish Business Community

The Russian war of aggression has had a significant impact on Eastern Finland’s economy, especially with the complete closure of the Russian border. Despite the desire and faith of Eastern Finland’s companies, the state of Finland’s public finances necessitates a realistic approach to revive the region’s economy and vitality.

The Finnish Confederation of Business and Industry (EK) has proposed a list of recommendations to facilitate growth and development in Eastern Finland. Harry Broman, Chairman of the EC, emphasizes the need for cooperation between public authorities and business organizations to enable the region to thrive. One recommendation is to designate Eastern Finland as a special economic zone to accelerate business activities and create a healthy, growing economy that contributes to the national GDP.

Improving air connections, increasing investments in tourism, implementing a broadband program, and providing support for companies experiencing growth, skills shortages, and changes in ownership are also among the recommendations. The EU’s solidarity is called upon to support Russia’s neighboring countries, which are facing significant challenges due to the crisis.

Despite strong determination and optimism from Eastern Finland’s companies, financial considerations weigh heavily on both economic and security aspects. Collaboration between public and private sectors is essential to drive growth and sustainability in Eastern Finland.
