Prominent Local General Counsels Honored by Business Journal

The 14th Annual General Counsel Awards marked the end of the year for the Business Journal, with over 300 business executives attending virtually. Hosted by Erwin Chemerinsky, the dean of the University of California, Berkeley School of Law, the event was filled with laughter and insightful comments from sponsored speakers. Despite testing positive for COVID-19 earlier in the day, Chemerinsky ensured that attendees were entertained and informed throughout the evening.

Chemerinsky is a renowned professor and author with a focus on First Amendment law. He has had a distinguished career in legal education, serving as the founding dean of the University of California, Irvine School of Law before taking on his current role at UC Berkeley in 2017.

This year’s event took place at the Irvine Marriott and recognized five winners from diverse industries such as healthcare and hot tubs. The winners were selected from a pool of over 50 nominees for their exceptional contributions to their respective fields.

Paul Dechary of Monster Beverage Corp., Jason Weintraub of Jacuzzi Inc., Ryan Lindsey of Edwards Lifesciences Corp., Christina Whittaker of Alteryx Inc., and Hyundai Motor America were honored in different categories such as public company, private company, specialty counsel, rising star, and in-house legal team. Each winner was recognized for their outstanding achievements in their respective fields.
