President Fernández Casts Vote in Buenos Aires, Urges Respect for Democracy

The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, addressed the importance of respecting democracy during the election day, in which Sergio Massa and Javier Milei were competing in the second round to determine who would replace him as the head of state from December 10th. He expressed his wish for a day of happiness for Argentines and emphasized the value of democracy.

Fernández cast his vote and urged for everything to go without doubt and calmly, particularly in reference to concerns about possible fraud in the elections. He called for respect and care for democracy, and then left amidst greetings and applause from some of his supporters.

The president concluded his term on December 10th without seeking re-election after keeping a low profile during the election campaign. Around 35.8 million Argentines were eligible to vote, with voting being mandatory for certain age groups and optional for others as well as for residents abroad. Massa obtained 36.78% of the votes in the first round while Milei obtained 29.99%.
