Prehistoric Makeover: Denver Museum of Nature & Science’s ‘Prehistoric Journey’ exhibit undergoes 2-year upgrades for immersive experience

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science has undergone a prehistoric makeover of its “Prehistoric Journey” exhibit, showcasing life from up to 3.5 billion years ago. The upgrades, which have been in the works for over two years, include advanced lighting controllers, electrical enhancements to the dinosaur creekbed, and new dynamic lighting that allows visitors to experience a full day cycle in just three and a half minutes.

Through meticulous upgrades and innovative lighting installations, the museum aims to provide an immersive experience of the ancient landscape, allowing guests to feel the warmth of the sun, witness the play of light and shadow, and be surrounded by the hues of sunset before the stars take over the night. The exhibit features ancient seas, plants, fossils, dinosaurs, the first mammals, and the dawn of the human family, with 75 percent of its fossils coming from the museum’s Earth Sciences Lab.

The museum invites patrons to rediscover the transformed “Prehistoric Journey” Creekbed, highlighting the dedication and collaboration of various teams that made the upgrade possible. Visitors can enjoy the exhibit during one of the remaining free days, including dates in June, August, September
