Rooted in Norfolk: A Couple’s Unique Blend of Plants and Tea Sprouts into New Business, Potted

Potted: A Plant and Tea Café Bringing Unique Flair to Norfolk

Travis DiPerna and Michele Berkhimer have a shared passion for plants and tea, which led them to open their business, Potted, in Norfolk. The business, located in the Selden Market, offers a unique combination of a plant shop and tea café. Berkhimer manages the greenery side of the business, including a variety of plants for sale and a soil bar for repotting. Working with plants every day is a dream come true for her, as she has always had a love for gardening since childhood.

DiPerna is responsible for the tea menu at Potted, which features a selection of handcrafted hot and cold bubble teas. A Navy veteran originally from Pittsburgh, he has always enjoyed visiting unique cafes during his travels. A trip to Denver with Berkhimer inspired them to open their own plant and coffee shop in Hampton Roads to bring something special back to the community.

The couple started their journey to entrepreneurship with a mobile espresso cart and plant shop last fall, gaining a following through pop-up markets in the area. They were thrilled to have the opportunity to open a brick-and-mortar location in the Selden Market so quickly after starting their business. While they continue to operate their mobile cart and plan to do more pop-ups in the future, they also have plans to expand their business to include catering services.
