Realmuto and Schwarber still unavailable for Phillies against Mets

Phillies Faces Mets at Citi Field with Limitations in Their Lineup

The Phillies faced the Mets at Citi Field without two key players in their lineup due to injuries. J.T. Realmuto was out with a sore right knee while Kyle Schwarber had lower back soreness. Both players were hoping to avoid the injured list, but may have to miss the next game as well due to the short turnaround.

Prior to missing games, Schwarber had played almost every game in the regular season for the Phillies. He expressed eagerness to return to the lineup and support his teammates who were playing well. Manager Rob Thomson noted that Schwarber looked good during batting practice on Monday.

Realmuto’s knee has been bothering him for over a week, but he has not undergone testing for it yet. The team is monitoring both players on a day-to-day basis. With Schwarber’s injury and a left-handed pitcher starting for the Mets, the Phillies opted to give him an extra day off to balance the lineup.

The Phillies have limited catching depth behind Realmuto, making his absence significant. Backup catcher Garrett Stubbs has started few games over the past seasons and there is a noticeable drop-off in talent between him and Realmuto. Rafael Marchan is another catcher on the roster, but he has struggled with injuries recently. The team hopes to have Marchan back in action soon as they continue their quest for a playoff spot in the NL East division race.
