Fox Sports set to launch new College Basketball Crown tournament in 2025, posing as a rival to NIT

NIT Tournament Heads to Las Vegas for a Consolation Tournament Experience

The NIT tournament is set to take place in Las Vegas, starting on March 31, 2025. This year’s tournament will consist of 16 teams that did not qualify for the NCAA Tournament, with automatic bids given to two teams each from the Big Ten, Big 12, and Big East conferences. These conferences all have television agreements with Fox Sports.

The rest of the field will consist of at-large participants, but only men’s teams will be included in the tournament. The College Basketball Crown tournament is a new tournament that will serve as an alternative to the NIT rival. The final matchup between Indiana State and Seton Hall will be televised on ESPN.

AEG is a presenting sponsor of the tournament and games will be broadcast on both Fox and FS1. The NIT has been in existence since 1938 and serves as a consolation tournament for teams that missed out on the NCAA Tournament. Some teams chose not to participate in this year’s NIT in order to focus on other opportunities, like transfer portal negotiations. Overall, this year’s NIT promises to be an exciting event for basketball fans in Las Vegas.
