The NBA offseason has officially started, with the Boston Celtics winning the 2024 NBA Finals marking the beginning of the free agency period. However, players have only been able to negotiate with their current teams so far. That changes on Sunday night at 6 p.m. ET when NBA free agency officially begins and players can begin negotiating with any team in the league. Although deals can be agreed upon, contracts cannot be signed until the moratorium ends on July 6 at 12:01 p.m. ET.
As the free agency period gets underway, several big names are expected to make moves. LeBron James, who is a free agent, is expected to re-sign with the Lakers, especially after they just drafted his son, Bronny, in the recent NBA Draft. LeBron may take a pay cut to allow the Lakers to make other moves, including potentially bringing in Klay Thompson, who is likely to leave the Warriors after 13 seasons and four championships. Thompson could be a good fit alongside LeBron and Anthony Davis given his shooting ability and his connections to the Lakers organization.
Another major free agent to watch is Paul George, who opted out of his contract with the Clippers and could be looking to sign with a new team. While the Clippers are still in the running to bring George back, the 76ers and Magic are also reportedly interested in signing him. In addition to George, James Harden is also a free agent who is expected to re-sign with the Clippers
