Utah mall requests museum to vacate premises to accommodate new hockey team

National Hockey League Heads to Utah with New Practice Rinks: Salt Lake City’s Arts Community Adapts to Make Way for Ice Skating

Smith Entertainment Group is set to build new National Hockey League practice rinks at the Shops at South Town in Sandy, Utah. The development will also include a locker room and headquarters for the team. The Utah Arts Alliance has been temporarily housed at the mall and will need to move out to make way for the new developments.

Quinn Winter from the Arts Alliance expressed understanding towards the NHL and Smith Entertainment Group, acknowledging that having the NHL in Salt Lake City will greatly benefit tourism, arts, and culture in the community. While not an ideal situation, Winter mentioned that they are looking at potential new locations for Dreamscapes, such as the Art Castle in Salt Lake City.

Dreamscapes currently occupies a building on the west side of The Shops at South Town, which is known as one of Utah’s largest shopping destinations with nearly 1.3 million square feet of retail space. The Arts Alliance is open to suggestions and story ideas from the public and welcomes tips from KSL NewsRadio team during this time of reassessing its future plans.
