MMH Receives ASHHE’s Energy to Care Award: Midland Memorial Hospital’s Commitment to Sustainability Celebrated.
The American Hospital Association (AHA) is honoring Midland Memorial Hospital (MMH) with an Energy to Care Award from the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE). MMH will receive this award on July 24th at ASHE’s Health Care Facilities Innovation Conference in Anaheim, California.
The Energy to Care program recognizes healthcare facilities that exceed their sustainability goals by tracking their energy, water, and emissions reduction efforts. MMH is one of 102 participating facilities in 2024, representing only 2.3% of all enrolled facilities. Participants report their energy and water consumption as well as greenhouse gas emissions using the Energy to Care Dashboard. Award winners demonstrate significant reductions in energy use intensity.
Kara Brooks from AHA congratulated MMH for its commitment to sustainability and reaching this milestone. Abraham Bejil, Vice President of Facility Services at MMH, emphasized the hospital’s dedication to creating a healthy environment for patients, staff, and the community by reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainability since the Energy to Care Program began in 2006. Over 4,400 facilities have participated since 2010, leading to combined savings of over $550 million reallocated to patient care.
