AEM enhances satellite technology usage capabilities in Guerrero

Mexican Space Agency Strengthens Disaster Management Capabilities in Guerrero through Satellite Training

The Mexican Space Agency (AEM) has continued its support for the State of Guerrero by providing training in the use of satellite technologies to assist the state in preparing for hurricanes. Salvador Landeros Ayala, the general director of AEM, emphasized the importance of satellite technologies in all aspects of disaster management, from prevention to reconstruction.

As part of the Guerrero in Space project, AEM has trained a team to operate the “Early Warning and Humanitarian Aid System for the State of Guerrero” using specialized software like Sentinel Application Platform (SNAP) and Quantum Geographic Information System (QGIS). Participants in the training received instruction on Remote Sensing and Earth Observation Programs, as well as how to download, visualize, and process optical and radar satellite images.

Representatives from the Guerrero Council, the Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection, and the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources of the Government of Guerrero took part in the training.
