Massa Reflects on Potential Exit from Government after Electoral Defeat

Following his defeat in the second round of Sunday’s presidential election, Argentina’s Economy Minister Sergio Massa is considering requesting leave from office. He will not make any decision until the current president, Alberto Fernández, and the elected president, Javier Milei, come together. Official sources have confirmed to EFE Agency that Massa is expected to meet with his economic cabinet on Monday at the Ministry of Economy to await further details about the scheduled meeting between Fernández and Milei.

Fernández and Milei are reportedly scheduled to meet on Monday, which is a public holiday in Argentina. The meeting is expected to take place at the presidential residence in Olivos, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Milei won the second round of elections with 55.69% of the votes against Massa’s 44.30% and is expected to take office on December 10th.

After his defeat, Massa communicated with Milei to congratulate him and proposed transition mechanisms to ensure normal economic, social, political, and institutional functioning during his presidency. He reiterated that it was crucial for Milei to ensure certainty and guarantees about the political, social, and economic functioning of Argentina as he takes office. In his first speech after the victory, Milei highlighted that he believed that President Fernández’s government had left a destroyed economy on its way towards hyperinflation and problems in exchange markets relative prices debts.

The ongoing elections in Argentina have prompted various media outlets to use this opportunity to promote their content by featuring a mix of election-related news and unrelated materials alongside one another. It is important for individuals to be cautious when interpreting news sources during this time period.

In conclusion, Sergio Massa has expressed interest in taking a leave from office after losing the presidential election but has yet to make a decision until official confirmation from President Alberto Fernández and newly-elected President Javier Milei meet. The dialogues between these administrations are expected to continue in coming weeks to ensure a smooth transition between terms.
