Since 1995, Ron Hyde has been determined to bring a history museum to Sierra Vista. After years of hard work and dedication, he finally made progress on his dream in late 2023. Collaborating with Roger Weller, a former geology professor at Cochise College and member of the Huachuca Mineral and Gem Club, Hyde is now the curator of the Southern Arizona Museum of Science and Technology. Their mission is to showcase the rich mineral and fossil history of Cochise County and highlight Sierra Vista as a hidden gem worth exploring.
Hyde and Weller are passionate about using the museum to promote STEM education and boost the local economy through tourism. They believe that sparking interest in science at a young age can make a lasting impact on visitors. The museum operates Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and visitors are encouraged to make a donation for entry: $10 for adults, $8 for military/seniors, and $5 for kids. More information about the museum, including its address, can be found on their Facebook page.
