Liverpool has rejected a proposal from Newcastle United involving Anthony Gordon and Jarell Quansah in a potential swap deal. Despite interest from Paris St-Germain, Liverpool did not make any offer for Gordon and did not want to part ways with 21-year-old centre-back Quansah.
Quansah, who established himself as a regular in Liverpool’s first team last season, narrowly missed out on making England’s final squad for Euro 2024. With a number of strong options in their forward positions, such as Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota, Liverpool did not see the need to pursue a deal involving Gordon.
Gordon is highly admired by Liverpool but the Anfield club did not feel that the proposed deal was in their best interests. The 23-year-old forward recently made a substitute appearance for England in their Euro 2024 match against Slovenia and scored 11 goals for Newcastle last season. He was also named the club’s player of the season for 2023-24.
Newcastle United has not yet responded to requests for comment from BBC Sport regarding the proposed swap deal.
