Lee Health: Leading the Way in Health Equity and Social Responsibility, Recognized for Outstanding Performance in Lown Institute Ranking

In recent news, Lee Health, a prominent health system in the United States, has been recognized for its dedication to social responsibility and health equity. The Lown Institute ranked Lee Health as the fourth best health system in the country for these values, an impressive achievement considering there are over 311 health systems being evaluated. All acute care hospitals within the Lee Health network also received top grades in various metrics, demonstrating their commitment to providing high-quality care and promoting health equity.

This year marks the second consecutive time that Lee Health has made it into the top five nationally for its dedication to social responsibility and health equity. Specifically, Lee Memorial Hospital, which includes HealthPark Medical Center, was ranked as the top hospital in Florida for social responsibility and was among the top five in value of care and avoiding overuse of services.

The Lown Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility is a comprehensive ranking system that evaluates over 2,700 acute care and 800 critical access hospitals in the United States based on measures of health equity, value of care, and patient outcomes. This unique index takes into account factors such as community benefit, racial inclusivity, and avoidance of unnecessary procedures to assess a hospital’s overall social responsibility.
