Ryan Ficken remains as Chargers’ special teams coordinator

Keeping it in the Family: Ryan Ficken to Return as Chargers Special Teams Coordinator

Ryan Ficken, the 43-year-old special teams coordinator for the Chargers since 2022, will continue in his role for the upcoming season. This was announced by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Ficken has been an assistant coach for 15 seasons, including serving as the Vikings’ special teams coordinator in 2021. Interestingly, his former coach at Michigan, Jim Harbaugh, is currently the head coach of the Chargers and has chosen to keep Ficken on board as his special teams coordinator.

Meanwhile, Harbaugh’s son Jay is expected to take on a similar role with the Seahawks next season. It’s clear that family plays a big part in coaching decisions within the NFL.
