Jeff Bezos’ Stock Sales Propel Him Closer to Becoming World’s Richest Person Again

Jeff Bezos, the executive chairman of Amazon, is currently the world’s second richest person with an estimated net worth of $200 billion, according to Forbes. The battle for the title of the world’s richest person is ongoing, and Bezos may soon reclaim the top spot.

Recently, Bezos sold more than $2 billion worth of Amazon stock, almost 12 million shares, on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8, according to a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Another filing indicates that he intends to sell more, proposing the sale of 50 million Amazon shares around Feb. 7, worth an estimated $8.4 billion.

The stock sales could propel Bezos’ net worth, allowing him to reclaim the title of the wealthiest person from Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Currently, Bezos is in the No. 2 spot on Forbes’ Billionaires Index with a net worth of $200 billion, just $9 billion behind Musk, who holds the No. 1 spot with $209 billion.

Musk’s net worth is tied to Tesla’s stock, which has taken a hit in recent weeks, dropping 24% in the first two months of the year. Additionally, a judge voided his historic $56 billion executive compensation package, impacting his claim as the world’s wealthiest. On Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index
