Italian football’s Euro 2024 hopes dashed as they lose to Switzerland
Italy’s Euro 2024 hopes came crashing down on Saturday evening as they fell to a 2-0 defeat against Switzerland. The Italian team, led by Luciano Spalletti, was unable to overcome their northern neighbors and were knocked out in the Round of 16.
Nicolo Fagioli earned his first start of the summer in Germany and played for 86 minutes, while Federico Chiesa also featured from the first minute until the end. Andrea Cambiaso made his third appearance at the tournament when he came off the bench. Unfortunately, Federico Gatti remained among the substitutes and did not see any playing time in the match.
Italy’s disappointing performance resulted in an early exit from the competition, marking the end of their Euro 2024 campaign. The team will now have time to reflect on their mistakes and prepare for future competitions.
