Youth organizations’ budget cuts reduced by Smotrich

Israel’s Youth Organizations Avoid Liquidation: Finance Minister Reviews Funding Cuts

In response to the mass protest against the Ministry of Finance’s planned cuts in government funding for teenage and youth organizations, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has announced a review of this decision. The original plan called for a 10 million shekel reduction in funding, but the minister has now stated that the budget of youth organizations will only be reduced by 1 million shekels. This adjustment was reflected in the first reading of the adjusted draft state budget for 2024, which was adopted last week.

The leaders of these organizations expressed their relief at the news but also stated that they still face significant challenges due to state support being reduced by 1 million shekels. They warned that this could lead to the liquidation of teenage and youth movements in Israel, including popular ones like Bnei Akiva and Tzofim. The minister has yet to provide any details on how he plans to address this issue or what other measures he may take to support these organizations.
