Israeli delegation to the US canceled by Netanyahu over UN vote on Gaza ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu Cancels Visit of Advisors to Washington in Response to US Abstention on Gaza Ceasefire Resolution

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has canceled the visit of two of his closest advisors to Washington, Tzaji Hanegbi and Ron Dermer, in response to the United States’ abstention on a resolution in the UN Security Council that allowed for the approval of the first ceasefire resolution in Gaza in six months. The decision was a departure from Netanyahu’s usual stance on the Security Council and was seen as a direct response to Washington’s actions. Meanwhile, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s visit to Washington was not affected by the cancellation and is scheduled to meet with US officials to discuss alternatives to defeat Hamas that would minimize harm to civilians. The US is wary of the potential consequences of a large-scale military operation in Rafah and is advocating for a more cautious approach. The Biden Administration has expressed concerns about the humanitarian impact of such an operation and is working with Israel to find alternative solutions that prioritize civilian safety.
