South Korean shipbuilder HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering (KSOE) has partnered with Infineon Technologies through a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MOU). This collaboration is part of a larger project that aims to develop applications for the electrification of marine engines and machinery using energy-efficient power semiconductor technology.
Infineon Technologies will bring its expertise in semiconductor power modules and system solutions to the partnership, while KSOE will leverage its knowledge in creating environmentally friendly, decarbonized ship technology. Together, they aim to improve the reliability and performance of marine vessels’ propulsion drive technology by developing power solutions for this critical component.
The use of power semiconductors will enable precise control of multiple power modules, such as large-capacity propulsion drives. By working together, KSOE hopes to advance the electrification of ships and contribute to environmental sustainability. The partnership between Infineon and KSOE represents a significant step forward in the development of innovative technologies for sustainable shipping.
