The College of Science and Engineering at HBKU Partners with NASA to Enhance Quantum Research, Education, and Space-Based Technologies

HBKU and NASA Forge Ahead with Groundbreaking Quantum Research Collaboration

In a significant development for the field of quantum research and education, the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NASA. The agreement, led by the Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2) at CSE, aims to explore collaborative opportunities in quantum communications, sensing, and space-based applications.

One focus of the partnership is a feasibility study to develop technologies for quantum communications and networking, as well as quantum sensors for space science and observation. This includes the modeling and testing of systems for applications such as blind quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). The collaboration also considers potential future space-based quantum missions for technology demonstration and testing.

In addition to this, HBKU and NASA will work together on training, education, and workforce development in quantum technologies. The initiative will involve the creation of specialized educational programs to build local capacity and attract talent from the region.

Dr. Saif Al-Kuwari, Director of QC2, highlighted the broad scope of the collaboration and its potential to drive innovation in quantum technologies, aligning with QC2’s objectives.
