German Lawmaker Faces Corruption and Money Laundering Probe for Involvement with Pro-Russian Propaganda Platform

Petr Bystron, a member of the far-right Alternative for Germany party, is currently being investigated by German prosecutors for corruption and money laundering. The investigation was initiated after his immunity from prosecution was lifted by the Bundestag, allowing it to proceed.

The probe is related to Bystron’s involvement with the “Voice of Europe”, a pro-Russian propaganda platform that was recently sanctioned by Czech authorities. It is alleged that VoE was operating as a “Russian influence operation” on behalf of Viktor Medvedchuk, a pro-Russian Ukrainian media magnate. The platform was used to funnel money to politicians in exchange for promoting pro-Kremlin narratives leading up to the European parliament elections in June.

Authorities in the Czech Republic have stated that VoE was operating as a “Russian influence operation” on behalf of Medvedchuk. They have also indicated that this investigation reflects growing concern over foreign influence operations within European political systems. As the investigation unfolds, further details about Bystron’s involvement with VoE and the extent of the corruption allegations are likely to surface.
