The PGA Tour Champions is obtaining its personal group competitors in the kind of the Globe Champions Cup.
The inaugural 3-way competitors among players from the U.S., Europe and the rest of the globe is slated for Dec. 7-ten at the Concession Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
Jim Furyk, Darren Clarke of Northern Ireland and Ernie Els of South Africa had been announced as the initial group captains back in 2021. The Globe Champions Cup was anticipated to debut in 2022 prior to becoming pushed back to 2023.
ABC and ESPN will air the competitors, which will pit teams of PGA Tour Champions players in a series of nine-hole group and singles matches, in a format equivalent to the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup for men’s golf and the Solheim Cup in women’s golf.
The group that earns the most points just after 24 total matches will be declared the winner.
Furyk and Clarke have previously served as Ryder Cup captains for their respective teams. Els was the International team’s captain for the 2019 Presidents Cup.
Charlie Besser, the CEO of sports marketing and advertising and events corporation Intersport, was credited with bringing the concept to the tour ten years ago.
“The concept was genuinely to create upon the excitement of the Ryder Cup and of the Presidents Cup, to attempt to bring everyone collectively, the complete globe collectively in one particular occasion, hence the 3 teams, an International Group, European group and an American group,” Besser told PGATour.com.
“And we all know that the guys who play PGA Tour Champions have got some severe old scores to settle with every single other, and they are excited to get back out there and get just after it.”
