Peoria business receives overwhelming community support after asking for help

From Financial Struggles to Flourishing: The Popcorn Shoppe’s Journey with Community Support

The Popcorn Shoppe, a local business located at the Metro Centre, has been facing financial difficulties in recent months. Co-owners Matt George and Niki Duckworth opened the Peoria storefront in September 2022 and have struggled to attract new customers despite offering a range of gourmet popcorn flavors and other products.

In an attempt to increase their customer base, The Popcorn Shoppe turned to social media for help. They shared their struggles with their followers and asked for assistance, which resulted in an overwhelming response from the Peoria community. Their post received more than 500 reactions and over 2,000 shares, with another local business, Big Mike’s Donuts & Coffee, showing their support as well.

Despite initial success, The Popcorn Shoppe still faced challenges in paying employees, covering rent and inventory costs and other bills. However, the community’s response was quick and the business saw an increase in sales after receiving support from social media users.

The co-owners expressed gratitude for the support they had received but emphasized that they still needed ongoing help to stabilize their business. Despite this, the Peoria community has continued to rally around The Popcorn Shoppe demonstrating the power of community support for local businesses.
