Francis Scott Key Bridge: A Tragic Accident and its Impact on Baltimore Harbor

The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland, was hit by a container ship on Monday. Governor Wes Brown praised the crew of the ship for their timely warning that saved lives. According to Governor Brown, the ship had previously been disabled and was moving at high speed towards the bridge when it sent out a distress signal before impact. Thanks to their warning, more cars were stopped from entering the bridge, preventing a major disaster.

The FBI has ruled out any possibility of the ship’s impact being a terrorist attack. Following the collision, two people were rescued from the Patapsco River with one in serious condition. However, six individuals believed to be part of the construction crew working on the bridge are still missing. Three cars and two trucks also fell into the river during the incident.

The Francis Scott Key Bridge is a crucial link in Baltimore Harbor and was opened in 1977, named after the author of “The Star-Spangled Banner.” With its closure and suspension of traffic in Port of Baltimore, experts warn that potential disruptions could affect goods from cars to coal and sugar. The closure of one of America’s main ports on the US East Coast could lead to bottlenecks, delays and increased costs. Authorities are currently continuing rescue and recovery efforts while investigating the cause of this tragic accident.

Governor Brown commended first responders for their quick response and bravery in saving lives during this emergency situation.

“We are grateful for our first responders who acted quickly to prevent further damage,” said Governor Brown. “This is a reminder that we must always remain vigilant to ensure public safety.”
