Former Business Manager of Yute Commuter Service Charged with Embezzlement Four Years After Civil Suit: Nathan McCabe Faces Up to 10 Years in Prison for Theft

Nathan McCabe, a former business manager of Yute Commuter Service, has been charged with embezzlement after allegedly stealing more than $200,000 from the company. This comes four years after he was named in a civil suit seeking damages for the same alleged theft. The charges against McCabe include four counts of scheme to defraud and one count of first-degree theft, both class B felonies with a maximum sentence of 10 years.

According to the Alaska Department of Law’s press statement, McCabe defrauded Bethel businesses Yute Commuter Service and Riverside Apartments out of more than $200,000 over several months. The alleged crimes took place between early 2019 and the summer of 2020 when McCabe was directly involved in the operations of both the commuter air service and apartment building.

The charges brought against McCabe include a variety of unauthorized payments made using company accounts. These payments included personal expenses, wire transfers for two motorbikes, and pay raises and bonuses that McCabe allegedly gave to himself. McCabe initially started working as an assistant business manager at Yute Commuter Service in February 2019 and later became the business manager that same year.

While McCabe’s wife and maternal cousin are also named in the civil suit, they do not appear to be facing criminal charges currently. McCabe is set to be arraigned in Bethel Superior Court on May 21, and a trial could potentially commence on July 9.
