FIIs Sell Shares Worth Rs 776 Crore, Yet Nifty and Sensex Close Higher: Analysis of Institutional Investor Performance in Indian Stock Market

In recent trading sessions, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth Rs 776 crore, while Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth Rs 2,128 crore. Despite the selling activity by FIIs, the Nifty and Sensex closed higher. The Nifty Consumer durables index was the top gainer among sectors, gaining around 1.7 percent. This was followed by Nifty IT and Nifty Realty with gains of 1.2 percent and 0.9 percent respectively. On the other hand, Nifty FMCG gained only 0.8 percent and Nifty Bank and Auto saw an increase of 0.6 percent each. The losers in this session were led by the Nifty PSU Bank index which fell by 0.88 percent.

So far this year, FIIs have sold shares worth Rs 121,826 crore while DIIs have bought shares worth Rs 185,038 crore. In comparison to last year’s performance, the Nifty has advanced by a remarkable 21.4 percent while the Sensex has advanced by an equally impressive 17.26 percent in the same period
