FIFA Announces Launch Date for Inaugural Women’s Club World Cup: Tournament Scheduled for January 2026

FIFA’s Global Women’s Club Tournament: An Exciting New Chapter in the Evolution of Soccer

In 2026, FIFA will officially launch the first Women’s Club World Cup tournament. This tournament is expected to involve 16 teams, although FIFA has yet to specify how these teams will qualify or where the event will take place.

Two of Europe’s top women’s soccer teams, Barcelona and Lyon, are set to face off in the upcoming Champions League final on May 25 in Bilbao, Spain. Since 2011, they have combined to win an impressive 10 titles in this prestigious competition.

FIFA has also announced plans for a new men’s Club World Cup that will debut in June-July of next year in the United States. Teams will qualify for this tournament based on their performance in continental championships through 2024. The inaugural men’s edition will include both European and South American teams.

The launch of a global women’s club tournament is seen as a key part of FIFA’s strategy to develop women’s soccer. This tournament is planned to be held every four years, similar to the men’s edition. Additionally, there are plans to organize an annual “Intercontinental Cup” featuring the champions of the six men’s continental competitions.
