Taylor Heinicke renegotiates contract with Falcons to take pay cut

Falcons’ Backup QB Taylor Heinicke Takes a Pay Cut, Saves Team Millions in Cap Space for 2024 Season

The Falcons recently announced that backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke has agreed to a pay cut for the 2024 season. Originally set to earn a base salary of $5 million, his salary was reduced to $1.21 million. However, he did receive a $1.32 million bonus after the start of the new league year. Additionally, $40,000 in per-game roster bonuses were removed from his contract, resulting in over $4 million in cap savings for the Falcons.

The Falcons are currently down to two quarterbacks on their roster following the trade of Desmond Ridder. It is likely that they will add another quarterback soon to fill the No. 2 spot on the depth chart. Despite the changes in his contract, Heinicke is expected to remain as the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart for the Falcons this year.
