Perlen is targeting UPM & Co.’s business.

Expanding Overseas: Swiss Newsprint Producer Faces Challenges in Shrinking European Market

A Swiss newsprint producer is currently seeking buyers in Turkey and India as it faces challenges in a shrinking market in Europe. In Switzerland, there is an abundance of used cardboard due to the rise in online shopping and home deliveries, but fewer bundles of waste paper are being collected.

The paper factory in Perlen, Lucerne is facing declining sales as fewer people are reading physical newspapers and magazines. With a shortage of recycled paper in Switzerland, the factory is expanding its customer base abroad, with Germany becoming its most important sales market, followed by Italy.

To survive in a shrinking market, Perlen is also looking at countries like Spain, the Benelux countries, Great Britain, Poland, Scandinavia, Latin America, China, India and Turkey as potential markets for expansion. However, the company faces challenges such as fluctuating paper prices, overcapacity and competition from other manufacturers in the industry.

Despite these challenges
