Expanded College Football Playoff Format Provides LSU with a Better Chance of Returning to Postseason for the First Time in Four Years

In 2024, the College Football Playoff format will undergo a significant change, as it will expand to include 12 teams. This shift in postseason structure provides LSU with a better chance of returning to the CFP for the first time since 2019. As part of this expansion, all New Year’s Six games will now be part of the playoff structure, directly impacting bowl projections as we head into the upcoming season.

Athlon Sports’ preseason preview magazine has provided projections for each bowl game, and LSU is predicted to land in the Gator Bowl, facing Miami. However, some may consider this spot a disappointment, as the Tigers have only played in the Gator Bowl once before, securing a win over South Carolina in 1987. Despite this ranking, LSU aims to defy these predictions and earn a spot in the initial 12-team playoff field.

However, LSU faces challenges with many key positions needing to be filled on both offense and defense. The uncertainties surrounding these positions make it difficult for LSU to predict its success in the upcoming season. Nevertheless, they remain determined to overcome these obstacles and make a strong showing in 2024.
