Newcastle and Everton played to a 1-1 draw: An analysis from Yahoo Sports

Everton’s VAR Miracle: A Draw Against Newcastle in the Midst of Relegation Battle.

In the midst of their relegation battle, Everton managed to secure a crucial point against Newcastle. The game was dominated by Newcastle, with Alexander Isak putting them in a 15th-minute lead. However, Jordan Pickford, the ex-Sunderland goalkeeper, made several key saves to prevent Newcastle from increasing their advantage.

Despite being outplayed for much of the match, Everton was able to draw thanks to the help of VAR. In the 65th minute, Dan Burn’s goal was disallowed due to offside by VAR. But in stoppage time, Paul Dummett committed a foul on Ashley Young and Dominic Calvert-Lewin successfully converted the resulting penalty. This marked his first goal since October and ended a 23-game goal drought for Everton.

The draw left Everton still struggling in the Premier League with a winless streak that has now extended to 13 games and setting a new club record. Manager Sean Dyche expressed hope that Calvert-Lewin’s goal would be the first of many as Everton desperately need more goals to climb out of the relegation battle.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are now looking forward to their next match as they continue their quest for European qualification.

Overall, it was a hard-fought game for both teams with both sides playing well but failing to take home all three points.
