COVID-19 cases continue to rise, and as Noa (pseudonym) shared her experience with Mako Health, she expressed surprise at contracting the virus after avoiding it for over four years. She described experiencing familiar symptoms such as body aches, weakness, and high fever. Meanwhile, other patients like Hagit (pseudonym) reported more severe symptoms including confusion, lack of concentration, and skin redness. Michal (pseudonym) highlighted how COVID-19 exacerbated her existing lower back pain, making movement difficult.
Prof. Cyril Cohen from Bar-Ilan University’s immunotherapy laboratory explained that new strains of the virus, including Lb1, Kp2, and Kp3, are contributing to the current wave of infections. Symptoms like fever, chills, sore throat, fatigue, and loss of taste and smell remain common. Some patients also reported abdominal pain and diarrhea alongside new symptoms like brain fog and increased muscle and joint pain.
The professor warned of a continued increase in infections globally and emphasized the importance of testing and isolating for those who experience symptoms. He suggested getting tested on the second or third day of symptoms for accurate results. Regarding vaccination, he suggested that annual shots for the elderly population may be necessary due to the virus’s quick changes.
