City Shuts Down Leased Sports Fields: What You Need to Know About Closures and Sign-Up for Alerts

The city has made an announcement that all leased sports fields, including those in schools, will be closed during a specific time frame. This means that using these fields is strictly prohibited during the closure period. Permitted leagues found using a closed field may face fines or loss of field usage for the season. On the other hand, unpermitted users will receive a warning or citation if caught on a closed field.

To get information about field closures, interested parties can visit the City’s website at www.cityoffrederick.com or call the public information line at 301-600-6970, option 3. Closures are usually posted by 2 pm on weekdays and 8 am on weekends. Additionally, individuals can now sign up for email or text alerts for field closures on the City’s website by clicking on “View All” under press releases on the main page and then clicking on “Notify Me” on the right side. They can add their email address and select which groups they want to receive messages from as well as specify if they prefer email, phone alerts, or both.
