Chris Paul, San Antonio Spurs: From Backup to Starter as Golden State Warriors Say Goodbye

After being let go by the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, Chris Paul has reportedly agreed to a one-year, $11 million-plus deal with the San Antonio Spurs. The Warriors waived Paul before a deadline that would have guaranteed him $30 million for next season, as they were unable to find a trade partner. Now, Paul will be joining the Spurs after spending a single season in San Francisco, where he served as a backcourt mate and backup to Stephen Curry.

Despite being 39 years old, Paul still contributes as a capable playmaker and floor general on the court. With his scoring abilities somewhat diminished from his prime, Paul will look to make an impact with the Spurs alongside rising star Victor Wembanyama and four-year veteran Tre Jones.

Meanwhile, the departure of Klay Thompson from Golden State is also uncertain as talks with the five-time All-Star and four-time NBA champion have reportedly broken down.
