China’s Yang secures ninth diving gold medal at world championships

China’s Dominance at World Aquatics Continues as Yang Hao Wins Men’s 10m Platform Gold

With six months to go before the Olympic Games, China claimed their ninth gold medal at the World Aquatics Championships on Saturday in the diving events. Yang Hao made history by winning his first individual world title in the men’s 10m platform with 564.05 points, beating compatriot and Olympic champion Cao Yuan into second place. Ukraine’s Oleksii Sereda came third.

Chinese athletes have had a successful run at the World Aquatics Championships in Qatar, winning a total of 13 diving medals, including seven golds in artistic swimming. Prior to this year’s championships in Budapest, China had only won one gold medal in artistic swimming in the previous 18 editions of the world championships. However, they have since won four golds in Budapest and three in Fukuoka, Japan last year.

On Sunday, the indoor swimming events will begin during the final week of the championships, with two more golds up for grabs in high diving which starts on Tuesday. The Paris Olympics run from July 26 to August 11.
