Children’s Pain and Fever Medications Recalled Due to Potential Health Risks

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of children’s pain and fever medications from KinderFarms due to a potential health risk, according to the FDA. The recall affects KinderMed Infants’ Pain & Fever and KinderMed Kids’ Pain & Fever oral suspensions, which were manufactured and packaged by a major U.S.-based OTC pharmaceutical manufacturer.

Ongoing testing of sample batches revealed that some product lots were no longer in specification and may pose a health risk, prompting the recall. The active ingredient in the products, acetaminophen, is used in many pain-relieving medicines, and the potential health risk with acetaminophen being outside of specification could cause adverse health effects.

The impacted products include all lots of KinderMed Infants’ Pain & Fever (2 fluid ounces/59 mL), (Acetaminophen – 160 mg per 5 mL), Oral Suspension, and KinderMed Kids’ Pain & Fever (4 fluid ounces/118 mL), (Acetaminophen – 160 mg per 5 mL), Oral Suspension. The recall was initiated out of an abundance of caution.

To date, there have been no reports of serious adverse events from either product. The products are available nationwide in drugstores, supermarkets, direct delivery, national retailers as well as online through major e-commerce sites. Consumers who purchased either product should stop using them immediately and return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
