Clyde Edwards-Helaire signs one-year contract with Chiefs

Chiefs Retain RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire for 2024 Season as they Explore Other Options in Backfield

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to a one-year deal with running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire for the 2024 season, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media. Despite declining his fifth-year option last spring, Edwards-Helaire still made an impact during the team’s Super Bowl LV victory in 2021, recording 411 yards from scrimmage on 87 touches.

In his rookie season, Edwards-Helaire had 1,100 yards from scrimmage and five total touchdowns. However, after dealing with injuries and facing strong competition from Isiah Pacheco, he fell on the depth chart in 2022. Over his career, Edwards-Helaire has gained 1,845 rushing yards and scored 12 rushing touchdowns in 48 games with 32 starts. He has also contributed in the passing game, catching 89 passes for 765 yards and seven touchdowns.

The Chiefs are reportedly also considering signing running back J.K. Dobbins for a visit on Tuesday. The backfield situation in Kansas City will be something to monitor as the team continues to shape their roster for the upcoming season. It is uncertain if the signing of Edwards-Helaire will impact their pursuit of Dobbins or any other potential additions to their backfield.
