Chicago Blackhawks Partner with NBC Sports Chicago for First-Ever Local Animated Game, Engaging Younger Fans Through Interactive Content

The Chicago Blackhawks are constantly on the lookout for innovative ways to engage their fans. Jaime Faulkner, President of Business Operations for the team, recently announced a partnership with NBC Sports Chicago and the NHL to produce a first-ever local animated game. The goal of this project is to introduce Blackhawks fandom to a younger generation through engaging content that connects with families in their daily lives.

The animated presentation on NBCSCH+ will feature well-known broadcast talent such as Chris Vosters as play-by-play announcer, Dominic Moore providing in-game analysis, and Adam Burish and Tony Granato covering studio content for all ages during intermissions. This collaboration aims to provide a unique viewing experience for families and younger fans, showcasing the sport in a new and exciting way.

John Schippman, VP of Sports Content at NBCUniversal Local Chicago, expressed excitement about the opportunity to merge the talents of NBC Sports Chicago, the Chicago Blackhawks, and the NHL to create the first-ever local animated pro game telecast. By leveraging NHL EDGE positional data and Hawk-Eye Innovations optical tracking, the presentation will bring the action on the ice to life in real-time, featuring Blackhawks mascot Tommy Hawk and other characters in a fun setting at the United Center.

In addition to the animated presentation, NBC Sports Chicago will also air the traditional game telecast with WGN Radio 720’s John Wiedeman handling play-by-play duties and Darren Pang providing expert game analysis. This dual broadcast approach allows fans of all ages to enjoy the game in different formats and adds another layer of excitement to the viewing experience.
