Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Approaching Soon, Predicted to Bolster Economy

Charleston Sternwheel Regatta Returns: Businesses Prepare for Millions of Visitors and Revenue Boosts

The 2024 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta is fast approaching, and businesses like Fife Street Brewing are preparing for the expected influx of people downtown. John Query, the General Manager of Fife Street Brewing, stated that they have tripled their inventory and are ready with plenty of beer and the AC cranked up for the event.

The return of the Regatta to Charleston summers after an absence since 2009 has brought life and vitality back to the city. Mayor Amy Goodwin described it as “Charleston’s Super Bowl,” and said that it could fund the construction of West Virginia Capitol three times over. The event is predicted to bring tens of millions of dollars to the local economy, with last year seeing a $37 million return on investment, up from $31 million in 2022.

Goodwin highlighted the significance of the Regatta, stating that managing expectations is crucial as the success of the event depends on factors like weather. Anticipated attendance numbers are expected to exceed 200,000 people.

Fife Street Brewing benefits from various events in Charleston during summer season such as bike races and FestivALL which contribute to driving sales for businesses like them. John Query expressed gratitude towards both local customers and visitors who come to the city for these events.

The 2024 Charleston Sternwheel Regatta is scheduled to take place from July 3-7, bringing excitement and economic growth to the city.
