Charles Knight’s Departure from Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Marks the End of an Era for Wildlife Conservation Advocate

Charles Knight, a dedicated and passionate scientist, has retired from the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science after 31 years of service. Knight’s connection to the museum dates back to his childhood in the 1970s when he first visited it and felt a personal connection to it. He later earned degrees in biology and gained experience with scientific museum collections before joining the museum as a Research Coordinator. Over the years, Knight worked his way up to become the Director of the museum.

During his tenure, Knight oversaw several significant achievements at the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science. The museum was accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, won the Travel Attraction of the Year award from the Southeast Tourism Society, and was recently named “2024 Best Museum” by readers of Mississippi Magazine. These accomplishments are a testament to Knight’s dedication and commitment to creating engaging exhibits that inspire visitors while also advancing research in wildlife conservation.

Lynn Posey, Executive Director of Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP), praised Knight’s contribution to growing the museum into an award-winning attraction and research facility. Posey recognized Knight’s unwavering commitment to creating engaging exhibits that promote wildlife conservation education while also providing visitors with a memorable experience. Posey expressed gratitude for Knight’s decades of service and congratulated him on his distinguished career before wishing him well in all his future endeavors.

Knight’s legacy will live on as he continues to inspire new generations through his work in scientific exploration and environmental conservation.
