Bridging the Gap: Fostering Human Rights in Snow Sports through Collaboration and Awareness

Experts from FIS and various organizations led discussions and presentations during the event, which aimed to address human rights issues in snow sports. The speakers included Adam Hall, a New Zealand Paralympic alpine skiing World Cup athlete, Mathilde Grenet, founder of “En Garde,” Eddie Marshbaum, Head of Sport at Quest, and Ken Read, a former Canadian alpine skiing legend.

The first session featured FIS specialists like Alexandra Blum, Andrea Rinaldi, Sandra Spitz, and Dimitrije Lazarovski joining external speakers to lead discussions. Cornelia Blank from FIS Education Project Manager and Daniela Lux from UMIT Tirol also shared their insights with participants. David Grevemberg from the Centre for Sport and Human Rights and Gabriela Mueller Mendoza, an expert in Diversity and Inclusion in sports were also present to provide valuable insights.

The idea for this event emerged from a survey conducted by FIS with NSAs which highlighted the need to address human rights issues in snow sports. The seminar held during the Spring Meetings aimed to raise awareness, exchange ideas and foster collaboration across all snow sports disciplines. The collaboration among various FIS departments was evident through the participation of individuals like Fiona Stevens, Michel Vion and Susanna Sieff who made the seminar a valuable opportunity for stakeholders in the snow sports community.
