Recently, Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky discussed the role of artificial intelligence (AI) at the Aspen Ideas Festival. While ChatGPT was introduced in 2022, Chesky emphasized that most people have not yet experienced significant changes in their lives due to AI. Despite predictions about its transformative power, everyday apps and products have largely remained unchanged.
Chesky believes that within the next two to three years, there will be noticeable changes in how apps and products function. While AI has captured people’s imagination and generated some fear, it has not yet resulted in significant changes to their daily lives. According to Chesky, the potential of AI has not been fully realized, especially in terms of the last 10%, where significant gains could be made.
Currently, AI rollouts have led to minor improvements such as chatbots and customer service tools. However, larger system-level integrations are on the horizon, with features like Apple Intelligence promising to revolutionize tasks like proofreading emails and managing schedules. Chesky expects that within the next two to three years, apps and products will undergo significant transformations, offering users a new and improved experience.
While many apps have remained relatively unchanged since the rise of generative AI, Chesky anticipates a significant shift in the near future. He believes that by 2026, there will be a significant leap forward in how AI is integrated into daily technology use. Overall, Chesky’s outlook on AI suggests that while its impact may not currently be evident, significant changes are on the horizon.
