Breaking the Barriers: A Conversation with Dr. Raven Baxter on Diversity and Engagement in STEM

On April 3rd, at 3:30 p.m., Raven Baxter, also known as Dr. Raven the Science Maven with a following of over 200,000, will be giving a talk at the Nebraska Union Swanson Auditorium. This event is free and open to the public.

Trained as a molecular biologist and science educator, Baxter’s mission is to make science accessible to everyone, foster curiosity, and bridge the gap between complex scientific concepts and the general public. She has gained popularity with her hip-hop science videos and has started the Black in SciComm and Black in STEM Education movements. Currently leading the Science Haven, a nonprofit organization focused on making science engaging for people of all backgrounds, regardless of their scientific knowledge.

During this event, Baxter will have an informal conversation with Jocelyn Bosley, research impact coordinator in the Office of Research and Economic Development at Nebraska EPSCoR. They will discuss Baxter’s journey in STEM, the challenges and opportunities for creating a more diverse and inclusive STEM community, and creative strategies for making science engaging and relevant to a wider audience.
