Early Sunday morning, a fire broke out at the Butler County Health Department building in Greenville. The Butler County Sheriff confirmed that a 911 call was made around 3:30 a.m. reporting the fire. Responding officers and firefighters declared it a general alarm fire, and unfortunately, the building is considered a total loss. The state Fire Marshal’s office, local fire officials, police, and the sheriff’s department are all working together to investigate the cause of the fire.
At this time, Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn stated that, while the fire does not appear to be intentional at this stage of the investigation, they are still looking into possible causes. Fortunately, no one was inside the building at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The Alabama Department of Public Health is currently searching for a temporary location to continue providing services to the community.
Residents are advised to contact Crenshaw County Health Department or other nearby locations for assistance until a new location is found for Butler County Health Department services. Contact information and hours for all county health departments can be found on their website. It is crucial for the public to stay informed about any updates on this situation.
