Former Brazilian president Bolsonaro sought shelter at Hungarian embassy for two nights

Bolsonaro Sought Refuge in Hungarian Embassy Amidst Police Investigation in Brazil

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban recently welcomed former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro into his embassy in Brasilia. This was confirmed by Bolsonaro’s lawyers after reports from The New York Times. According to the American newspaper, Bolsonaro stayed at the embassy from February 12 to 14, following a police investigation into an “attempted coup” that had led to him being banned from leaving the country.

Bolsonaro sought refuge in the embassy due to his desire to continue promoting his political agenda while he faces investigations for spreading false information about his election defeat and allegedly falsifying vaccination certificates during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, his lawyers deny that he was trying to evade justice, stating that he stayed there for “contacts with the authorities of a friendly country.”

In June, Bolsonaro was handed an eight-year ban from holding public office for spreading false information about his election defeat. Despite this ban, Bolsonaro remains committed to continuing his political activities through various links and references related to promotions, traffic, and software.
